Compel is software that analyzes combinations of marketing messages to see which resonate best with customers. Using market research data, it calculates effectiveness scores to highlight the top-performing combinations.
Lieberman had outgrown their improvised in-house simulator, so we built a more advanced solution to calculate these scores.
Complex simulations they created would run 30+ hours
There was a limit on the maximum number of messages the system could process
The interface they had was outdated and not very user-friendly
The system had to run on office computers, making them unusable for long periods of time
First we built a technical proof of concept using optimized code developed by our team. We wanted to understand how much we can bring down the calculation times. With some work simulations that used to take 72 hours dropped to 6 minutes.
To understand the complexity of these calculations. A typical simulation runs through literally hundreds of millions of combinations of data and produces 60-80GBs of data.
After proving the technical concept, we mapped out the full user journey with wireframe prototypes, focusing on making the tool effortless to navigate and analyze. By shifting to a web app powered by a remote server, we freed up local machines and eliminated long wait times.
Following several weeks of close collaboration and quick iterations with the client, we had a bulletproof prototype that solved every core issue clearing the path for development.
The client originally asked for advanced Excel exports simply because that was their comfort zone. Instead of blindly following the brief, we saw an opportunity to improve their workflow and proposed a custom in-app solution instead.
They gladly embraced the idea, and after launch, they found analyzing results directly in the UI was far faster and easier than using spreadsheets. Combined with the massive jump in processing speed, a workload that previously took four full weeks was squeezed into a single day.
